Gabby Douglass makes history

Gabby Douglass

Gabby Douglass w/ Gold Medal

After winning Gold a few nights ago with her team, Gabby Douglass continued her streak of perfection by becoming the first black woman to win Gold in the individual all around competition.

Going in to the competition she was already the favorite to win but no one would know until she did it. In all of the competitions she lead Russia’s Victoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina who took Silver and Bronze. Fellow American Alexandria Raisman finished in fourth place.

This accomplishment wasn’t just about America winning Gold in the individual all-around, it was also about opening the door for young black girls who thought this day would never come. Thanks to 16-year old Gabby Douglass of Virginia, their dreams can now be a reality. Congratulations Gabby Douglass!!
